Chute
Chute is a photographic study of rodeo’s suspended moments—the quiet, measured stillness where waiting becomes its own form of concentration. Rooted in a post-documentary approach, the series examines the tension, physicality, and ritual embedded in the lead-up to each ride. Shot on black and white film, the work lingers in the textures and gestures that define this world: the way light fractures through dust, the creases in a well-worn glove, the silent exchanges between rider and animal. The grain of the film mirrors the grit of the arena, while the lack of color strips away distraction, emphasizing form, movement, and emotion. Rather than centering spectacle, Chute engages with atmosphere and anticipation, foregrounding the quieter, often overlooked rhythms that structure rodeo culture. By preserving both fleeting moments and defining rituals, the series offers an intimate study of a culture shaped by tradition, discipline, and quiet anticipation.
